...and I'm a blog-aholic.

I swear it's really like an addiction...i.just.cant.stop. I keep scrolling through people blogs with gorgeous ideas for events and parties and awesome little DIY projects that im just itching to do now. Once you start going through a blog you seriously just keep going its a like a downward spiral sooo many pretty pictures that total ignite you imagination and stimulate your creativity cells ( which up til now seemed like they were dying...slowly). And i keep telling my self to stop and get off the computer but i just cant i keep wanting to look and learn and drool over the coolness of it all...

I just want to throw as many parties as possible just so i can try out all the cool ideas and pretty themes...

It has indeed been a considerable time since my last blog I would like to lie and say I've been super busy and haven't had a chance or say that I have nothing worth blogging about but that would, in fact, be entirely untrue. I've been to London, done a day trip to Oman, made some pretty large cakes on total short notice been photographing heaps been working super hard being prepared for a total career change, alright so not total change but I guess a slight change from the corporate graphic designing road dad was trying to oh so gently trying to shove me down. My mind is spinning with 101 art projects I want to do and get into but I know I wont inevitably wont be able to actually complete.

My internet is currently not working so in the next blogs to come I will posts lots of photos and more details on the happenings of my life. This blog was more of look-Im-alive-and-I-haven't-abandoned-you kind of blog...

There's this artsy modern cafe that I had been dying to go for ages after months of wanting to go and two failed attempts of arriving after closing time. I finally got a chance to eat there, while I was a little worried that the place would come short of the self created hype and expections, but I was equally excited that I had finally managed to make it. mOre cafe is this trendy little place housing art-work of aspiring artists, so definitly appealing to my senses. The menu offers a vast eclectic mix of cuisine from accross the world; Italian, Thai, Indian and South African are just a few countries culinarily represented from around the world. The food was really nice and the service was great, we happened to go at an in-between-time where it was too late for lunch and too early for dinner so we were promptly served. I was really impressed by the decor with artsy photography, to gorgeous paintings, art-nuvo popart meets antique furniture peices on display. They had a really attractive looking bakery in the corner which I couldn't resist...

Food: 7/10

Right, so I am more than well aware on the total neglagence of blogging for what, a whole month now :< I suppose I should have a great reason for making my prescence so sparse but i really dont it s agenuine equal mix of being really busy anf really lazy.

In anycase I have very little to report other than a hectic eid of back to back..to back orders not much happened at all...

I did go to Pakistan for a little while, around 2 weeks or so for a wedding which was well fun, I do have heaps of photos of places in Dubai that I want to put up and systematically I'll go through them all and upload them on here...

other than that and what seems like total excessive blogging (getting hooked on other peoples blogs and, clearly, not writing my own blogs) so much so if Kirstie was to look at my desktop at the moment she would be well proud by the sheer number of images i have clicked and dragged on there...after a quick select all and apple+i theres like 500 images overlapped all over each other:

Atlantis

I finally got a chance to check out the Atlantis Hotel, I got to ride on the monorail ride through the Palm Island, eat the best ice cream ever and see the Lost City of Atlantis Aquarium. It just so happens I'll be spending a night there tomorrow which I certainly am looking forward to. I'll get a chance to go the Aquaventure water park too which should be fun...

That was my last few days, which needless to say were quite intense! We've had a constant stream of guests come visit us this last week. I has been fun though I got to finally see Atlantis and rode the monorail across the Palm Island and saw the aquarium in the hotel it was quite impressive they had done it as the lost city of atlantis so they had "ruins" all along the bottom of the tank. I was a little worried about the sheer number of marine life in such a tank .

In the next few blogs I shall upload the photos of the various places...

I was just randomly looking through others peoples blogs set up here on blogger.com and whilst some of them are really cool and interesting. There is a very large handful which are jut simply questionable...Like one persons blog is called "modern bathroom design" and its about just that a person just finds images of modern style bathroom and publishes them in their blog...and thats it. just lots n lots of modern bathrooms...I guess there is probably someone looking at my blog going..."Geez this person is really obsessed with cupcakes"...And yes, yes I am...I'll be the last person to deny it but its not like my entire blog is about cupcakes theres more...Not much but there is more..

Oh I went to this cafe called More Cafe the other day Ive been wanting to go for ages but every time weve attempted to go weve always just arrived after closing hours...I shall review it up on my next blog....

Ill also do a review blog for Lime tree Cafe which I went to ages ago but just forgot post up the blog...

Oooh I also went on a Dhow cruise yesterday as well which was, aside for the whole dizzyness and motion-sickness and extreme heat, fun...I unfortunately didn't take my proper camera (which I greatly regretted afterwards) but I have my other camera on me ...I don't know how the photos turned out as I haven't uploaded them yet hopefully they're good if so I'll put those up too....

I gots me a brand new shiny macbook! (well its not shiny cuz its the macbook white but it certainly is new and ..very white) and the browser doesn't crash when I open the blogger site which means I can blog directly from my laptop rather than going uploading photos on to my laptop and then transferring it onto the home computer to publish a blog ...so I'm sure your all jizz-ing in your pants to know that I shall be blogging more often...can I get a hell yes?

I would like to believe I am officially over it...I think I'm totally ready to move on (finally) and step forward and let go of all the things that are holding me back I feel oddly empowered maybe its turning of age I don't know officially I cannot blame my stupidity and irrational decisions on that endearing youthful lack of better judgment..by now I should just learn from my mistakes rather than continuously make the same ones and falling into the same idiotic pattern... yes I'm well aware how I'm vague I'm being no I don't particularly feel the need to share specifics all that matters is I am officially over it and from this moment fourth I am going to focus on myself...I don't really believe that sounds selfish I think its something that is well overdue I've put all my time and effort and thoughts on other things and people...which detract me from what it is that I need to do to follow and achieve my own personal and professional goals...

so in the wise words of someone I know...

Quite a bit has happened over the last few days/week all of which I wont bore you with my the two main highlights of the the week were...

Firstly as previously mentioned in last blog it was my mother birthday ahu n I took her to circle...I noticed theyve repainted their walls to a bright blue colour...i had this awesome bagel burger/sandwich thing it was a lambburger with bree, a sweet tomatoe chutney and rocca leaves it was really really good!
then my father took us to this awesome, extremly expensive but awesome none the less seafood resteraunt called Mahimahi in the Wafi City the seafood was soo incrediblly delicious and fresh...

i joined a cake decorating class by Wilton...which is heaps fun... this is my first attempt at properally decorating an actual cake by myself... i thought it turned out well... its 4 layers of chocolate cake with 3 layers of chocolate icing inside and then a vanilla buttercream ontop....taste wise i definitly prefer my own buttercream...but the recipe we used was really really great to with work with and was the ideal consistancy but cuz they use crisco instead of butter which is the biggest bitch to wash up it gets everywhere!.... here are photos of me cake:

So wow last few weeks definitly intense... i started my business its going well tomorow itll be a 2 weeks since the party and ive already done 4 orders since my party and it hasnt even been full week...so im well happy...

today is my mothers birthday so ill be taking her out with my brother for lunch n then my dad will take us all out for dinner...I bought her presents...which I had fun photographing theyre these vintage patterned storage tins for like sugar and tea an coffee n stuff...I thought they were pretty....

n itll be my birthday on the 4th and then my brothers on the 17th ill be started a course on 26th of may..so yeah things are starting to pick up a little ...but I still havnet managed to accomplish the one thing i should have done months ago...get a proper full time actual job... hopefully I will.. hopefully out of nowhere that inspiration and movtivation and that passion and love to design and be creative will come back ...which I havent even seen a glimer of since I moved here ...I hope it comes back I need it so I can finish my portfolio and start applying...

other than that I've had this incredibly unshakable feeling...which I dont think is wise to dicuss up here...but its strange and I really wish I wasnt feeling it and I certainly shouldnt be feeling it regarding the person I have it for....my mind seems to be dwelling and lingering on things/people it shouldnt be...its a little annoying...

Cupcake Event...

Here are the photos from the cupcake event...Im still super tired so ill keep it brief..i was extremly happy with the turn out and the way it all played out.. I ended up making 7 types of cupcakes as youll see below and a grand total of 230 cupcakes were made by the end of the evening there were like maybe 10-15 left...i also was given this super awesome cupcake stand as a present which i just loved and used it to host the rest last remaing cupcakes on at the end....all in all great event and im well happy :D i even managed to get a few orders... ive set up another blog aswell where ive put up the online menu...

Day 139:

Places In Dubai- Circle

Circle is the really pretty, girly little resteraunt located at Beach Park Plaza on the Beach Road. My friend Rawiya introduced me to the place yesterday for breakfast. The interior has this great simple, clean, decident sophistication about it, with appropriate use of colour when called for. All the tables and chairs are all white in an antique style with a grey accented wall on the side which hosts a collection of mirrors and photography as well as a vintage poster which made me smile a little inside. The place seems open airy and classic feel to it with lots of natural light pouring in from the glass wall. The restaurant is simple with an eye for classic touches and details. As much as I would love to go on about the interior i should mention the food seeing as it is a restaunrant after all.

The place makes itself famous for their bagels, most of their menu was bagel related and they did indeed have an impressive list of bagels to offer. So naturally it would make sense to order something from their vast collection of bagel items. Instead I opted for their french toast I have to say my breakfast looked and tasted great.The french toast was really delicious and i was salvating just at the sight of it; a huge peice of toast covered in maple syrup topped with berries oozing with its own berry sauce which the bread soaked up making it even more yummy and then the whole entire plate was dusted with icing sugar.
It would be a good place for breakfast, brunch or lunch. The whole experince was lovely, great food gossiping with friends whilst sipping on coffee..really cant complain...
Price wise my french toast and coffee set me back only dhs37 i think (which is $13.75 australian dollars)

I see a red door and I want to paint it black...

I made red velvet cupcakes the other day and I was extremly happy with the end result...I was in the search for a really good red velvet recipe and the one that I used resulted with a cake that was super yummy, not to sweet, really light and soft and through experiementation I ended up creating a frosting that I was even more happy with; just the right amount of sweetness mixed the correct dose of cream cheesyness :D
I was extremly surprised on how very red the batter was though...i mean yeah im aware of the word 'red' in red velvet but i wasnt anticipating this level of redness..the colour and consistancy of the batter made it feel exactly like red paint...i felt like a child making make pretend cupcakes by pouring paint into the cupcake pan...ok i have never acctually ever poured paint into a cupcake tin...but the point is it felt a lil odd and surreal....

Places In Dubai- Sugar Daddy

Sugar Daddy is a really cute little cupcake shop in the Village on the beach road. Its a small shop offering a variety of homemade style cupcakes in a selection of really yummy flavours, Like most cupcake shops theyve decided to stick to the basic chocolate or vanilla base and then have a range of different flavoured toppings like kitkat, oreo and mint; in saying that they do have a few cupcakes that arent traditional chocolate or vanilla such as Red Velvet (a cupcake shop must) and carrot cake ( which i havent tried yet but looks nice).

Their Red velvet and chocolate base with mint frosting are my personal favourites... They also offer other treats like brownies and cookies and birthday cakes, which look like enormous cupcakes...but their star items really are their cupcakes...It was also a good opportunity to scope out my competition as well for future for when I open my own cupcakery... The cupcakes them self are nice, theyre a good size the cake is soft and not dry...i would have liked them to be a little more moist but over all as far as cupcakes go they tasted quite nice...this could be by absolute coincedence so I dont want to be starting any rumours here but the cake did taste suspiciously similair to the betty crocker cake mixes....but as i said this could just happen to be by complete coincidence....In my opinion the prices could have been set a little lower as well...
oh n the chef guy is not bad looking either.....

Apparantly there is another cupcake place in Dubai called Kitsch cupcakes but from what I've heard its not as good as Sugar Daddy..but I do intend on scoping that place out sometime in the near future...

In the spirit of cupcakes I thought id make the photo of the day cupcake related I made some Vanilla cupcakes with chocolate ganache glaze and vanilla butter cream frosting they actually turned out nice and they were simple and were a big hit with my brothers friends who came to visit from Bahrain...

Disco Lemonade

By no means am I fan of The Veronicas but for some reason every time I hear a song by the veronicas on the radio, in a shop or on the TV I have this overwhelming homely feeling missed with nostalgia washes over me that takes me back to weekend mornings listening to videohits in Australia...

I forgot to mention in my previous blog that I had a parking and hill test yesterday which i was dreading especially the hill test but it went really well and I passed which is good ...now i only have 9 more lessons and a computer test on signs left to go till I'm ready to take my full drivers licence test...which is exciting...

We recently were given this ENORMOUS box of danish butter cookies which love cuz it takes me back to when i was a little kid and i used to go to my dads office and the tea guy would always give me a handful of danish butter cookies...id then go and play the first edition of mortal combat on one of the office computers...good times...

Also misha's lupus is in remission which is fucking fantastic news...I'm super happy for her and wish i could have been there when they all found out....

Places in Dubai- Maria Bonita's Taco Shop

Its a mexican resteraunt thats serves authentic mexican food on Umm al-Sheif Street in Jumierah. the cute little mexican resteraunt is done up appropriatly in a tradtional mexican cantina style the atmosphere is warm, fun and cosy ideally is a great place for a fun dinner thats a little different. the food is actually really good it caters for those who like food a little on the spicy side as well as for those people who have milder taste buds. It is a popular place though i dont think ive ever been there or driven by at any point of the day and it hasnt been pretty much full...this however does make parking an issue. Price wise its decent not ridiculously expensive as most places here can be but not unbelievably cheap either..dinner for 2 including starters and a pitcher of margarita was DHS149 ( around AUS $57)

Places In Dubai- Shakespeare

Since I've been here ive been going around dubai and every once in a while i come accross a place where i say to myself " *insert name of person here* would absolutly love this place" so i take photos of the place and keep it aside....i think ive collected enough places now to start blogging about places in dubai id take my friends/family for when they do visit...

Im starting off with one of my favourite cafes its called Shakespeare there are two in Dubai that I frequently visit but i know there are heaps more all over dubai the website informs me there are 6 branches in Dubai...

One of the two i go to is a 15 mins walk from my place and one which is located at the village on beach road
They both essentially have the same style but i beleive the atmospheres are slightly different
the place is a lil quirky yet retains a sense of sophistication and charm....the style is a little hard to describe i suppose its a blend of tradional, with a predominant old english feel, a hint of an old tuscan atmosphere meets a blend of granny and shabby chic...which appeals to my senses...i do admit i enjoy going there more for coffee and a pastry as opposed to a full meal... they really do have delicious pastries...In my opinion people go to the place for the atmosphere and charm as opposed to the food which isnt bad at all though....it does however depend on what you order pastas and pastries are great...not so hot on the sandwiches. All 6 of the branches also serve shisha which I personally have not tried at sheakespeare yet but i know its my brother's place of choice to do shisha.

So I've been a teensy bit busy the last week or so..we've had heaps going on plus we had some guests staying over for a while so i kept my blogs written but i didn't get a chance to upload the photos till recently so I thought I'd just publish them all in one go now...I've just written the respective days as the subject of each blog...I'm not posting all of them cuz...some of the stuff I wrote before really isn't worth mentioning now so I didn't think it was worth posting anymore....

There is something about parties that i love ...especially brunches and teas its essentially just a whole meal out of super yummy stuff. The smells today were divine; working in the kitchen there was a infusion of an overwhelmingly delicious smell coming from the freshly baked bread rolls cooling in the corner mixing with the sweet smell of cherry crumble pie coming from inside the oven and incredibly aromatic earthly smell of dark chocolate melting on the stove top u just want to get a straw and suck up all the sent....its all so intensely amazing....

i made *the* cake...i call it *the* cake ...cuz it really is the ULTIMATE chocolate cake its perfect, its moist, rich and taste wise..in my book this is definitely the best cake in the world by a clear mile.. trust me once you've had this chocolate cake all other 'chocolate cakes' will seem inferior, its the kind of cake u crave, its the kind of cake u fall in love with. my aunt makes this cake on everyone's birthday in Australia she had sent the recipe over for my mother Ive made it twice since Ive come back..if there one slice of wisdom that she has passed on tome, the one thing i can take away, hold on to and then teach my children...maybe even my children's children it'll be this cake....

Yesterday I set out on a mission to try out atleast 4 new cupcake recipes...8 hours, 55 cupcakes, 4 cupcake variations later I ended up with results I was extremely happy with, I found a chocolate cupcake recipe that seemed good, I split the batter into four and added the extra ingredients to create the 4 individual flavours.... ....the toppings were a total improvisation because I realised that I had run out of some essential ingredients....so I made up the toppings from what I thought would taste interesting with the base.... these are photos from last nights cupcakes adventures....

Day 82:

Rocky road

I went on this day trip to Fujairah yesterday; Fujairah is one of the emirates (states) of UAE its nothing at all like Dubai, its mountainous with gorgeous landscapes, in a rocky, barren sort of way, its very small with even smaller broken and cracked buildings its more like a dusty town in comparison to the over-zealous cityness of Dubai. its about 2 hours drive from where I live in Dubai. They have this road side market in the mountains...which are more like high rockyhills than actual mountains per say, where they sell; plants, pottery, fruit n veg, carpets n the sorts,... although I really don't have much interest in any of those things I thought it would be a good photo opp... and a good chance to get out of the house, so I set off with my parents and two of my parent's friends, returned with a trunk full of plants and pottery and 110 new photos on my camera.

Reminising....

So I might have missed a few days of blogging the last few days... I have been surprisingly busy the last few days I was meant to write the blog yesterday but I was out all day annd when I did finally get home I was too exhausted from being out all day...
well that and my brother just bought Resisdent Evil 5 for the PSII and ive been sitting around the last few days playing that and in spare moment I have...

I don't actually have much to report but; today I dug though my trunk of memories ( yes I need to come up with a less gay name for it)… I’ve had this trunk since early highschool….I've always been abit of a horder in the sense I keep everything…cards, notes made in class, doodles by friends... anything memory related, it was so great going back and reminising on my highschool days i found sooo much junk in there..... I loved it...there were stories i had written in year5 and a diary me and cousin wrote when we were 7...

Its strange though I seem to be living in the past lately I keep thinking about things that were, people im no longer friends with, friends I shouldn’t have made friends with, people I wish I was more than friends with…. I suppose cuz there isn’t anything happening in my present and the future isn’t looking like much either I feel like all I have is the past to hold on to even though I should let go…I should have let go already…
But oh well see where the future takes us…

On exciting news I had my second driving class the other which was fun…38 more lessons to go and I can take test ..i seriously can’t wait to drive will save soo much money from taxis…but im starting to bleieve my intructor is a little flaky out of she cancelled my lesson today so that out of 3 lessons shes cancelled two and one shes changed the time for...
Also I found some really cool shops here that has really cool fashion I pretty much wanted to buy every single piece of clothing there I also found this other shop where I found this ultra ultra cute dress which I intend on going back and buying before it gets sold out seeing as it was the last piece…

So yesterday I was talking to Kirstie and she linked me to the most awesome site in the world...its essentially a programme that you download and it converts your regular JPEG photo into a digital poloroid...and if, like myself, your a massive fan of poloriods this is the coolest thing..well ever!! so thank you soo much kirstie to introducing me to this programme :D
And after spending, without exageration, the ENTIRE day converting pretty much my entire photo collection (which is enormous) into poloroid I thought I'd post up some of the images up on this blog....

We had this really cute brunch today with my mum’s high school friends and their daughters it was interesting to see my mother with her friends especially after finding old black and white photos of her and her friends in high school….its odd imagining your mothering being silly imbition-less just laughing with friends like I used to do…

The brunch was great though it was an all ladies brunch and the food was ultra yum…
I made blueberry muffins and peanut butter kisses but due to time contraints, I can't really claim the fame for either of them I had a little help from Betty crocker….
I am totally in love with this variation on the peanut butter cookie recipe… I'm pretty sure you can use any standard plain peanut butter cookie recipe…all you do is is roll the batter into an 1inch ball roll in sugar and put bake them till they're pretty much done (still a little soft inside) and immediately push a Hershey kiss on top on the cookie…then move it to a wire rack to cool…..they're pretty much best to eat immediately as although the kiss holds it shape its completely melted from the inside so the second you put it in your mouth it the chocolate collapses in a medley of peanut butter cookie covered in melted chocolate… tres awesomeness...

oh also my baby got back from the fix-ers he's all better now...i promise not to drop u again

Hello humans
So after recently trolling to some seriously awesome blog sites I have made my peace with the fact that in comparative mine will not be as cool or artsy or interesting. As cute, quirky, interesting, haught couture are not words used to describe my dress sense, I don’t have empecable taste for things in life I don’t even have amazing stories to tell about my action packed days….

Im just someone who has moved to dubai and is in the process of trying to sink my teeth into this place and readjusting and trying to get bearings in this new life…not as easy as I thought it was going to be…

Dubai is an awesome place whether or not it’s a place a person can truly settle down and live for a long duration of time is up for debate but its certainly is interesting…its very different to Sydney where…I don’t know what it was about that place. A place, I felt where inspiration was oozing out of every pore and was around every corner here its a lot harder to find such inspiration its highly commercialised and mainstream it lacks personality, and character and for a place that has such potential to be rich in heritage and culture it seriously lacks and what culture they do portray just seems fake and staged used more as a tourist gimmick than actually being intouch with their history and heritage….which is sad….

In saying that it does its job …to unaware onlookers it all really does look fascinating intriguing and its definitely a place you want to experience…and there are definitely some awesome places you want to check out.. Over the last two months I’ve been keeping a mental note of places to take kirstie to when she comes to visit me I thought I’d document them down pictures and all in my next blog because there are still a few places I want to go to and try out to determine whether they go on the list or not…

So..my first blog...seems kinda exciting and scary at the same time...im not sure how many people can see this...and if it really is accessible to everyone and anyone in the whole world i feel mildly obligated to write something of actual substance here...

But knowing me and my life at the moment, i wont...

Im just going to use this as a platform to rant/post up anything interesting and upload me photos...so essentially now that I've moved to new country my minions in sydney can keep tabs on me and what i get up to..... :)
